Raised on 01 Mar 1958 at Jodhpur, this Units was equipped with Stol DXE-3 (Otter) aircraft. The sqn is assigned a wide spectrum of tasks like Logistics Air Support, Communication Duties, Casualty Evacuation, Para Dropping, Supply Dropping and Aerial Photography. When the need arose aircraft from the Units were also converted as aerial gunships. During peace it undertook communication duties and rendered valuable assistance to the civil government during natural calamities. The Units has played active role in Goa Liberation, Indo China war and Indo Pak wars. '65 & '71. With the phasing out of Otters in 1984, the squadron became the first Units to induct Dornier aircraft in the IAF Inventory. Avro aircraft joined the squadron in 1996, making it the only IAF Units to have both light and medium transport aircraft on its strength. The Sqn moved to Adampur and Sarsawa for a while before moving to present location, Delhi in 1988.
